mHealth: a new perspective for healthcare

Adam Dicker, MD, PhD, of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, Philadelphia, gives us an introduction to the growing field of mHealth (mobile health). Digital health is an area in healthcare that includes apps and wearables and that allow patients and healthcare professionals to keep track of and record patient outcomes, toxicities and disease symptoms. It also includes telehealth which allows healthcare professionals to leverage technology to interact remotely with patients.

mHealth Connect aims to improve the use of physical activity wearables and apps for clinical purposes by bringing together device and app developers with a diverse group of clinicians and researchers to seed collaborations, as well as to identify and work together to overcome key barriers.

Speakers in this year's symposium "mHealth: Moving Toward Impact" discussed the progress that is being made, as well as the real-world challenges that are limiting the impact of consumer wearables in each of their industries and ideas of how to overcome them.

Previously, Christine was the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Sense Networks, developers of the first machine learning platform for mobile phone activity data (exited to YP.com). Bill is Rock Health’s Managing Director. Prior to joining Rock Health, Bill led the creation of a software-only product line within Roche Diagnostics where he partnered with hospitals in the US and EU to collaboratively develop highly usable decision support solutions.
